We had nearly 50 participants, with about two-thirds in person and one-third online. While we had hoped for even broader participation, this is already a very good beginning, thank you all for your engagement.
Two key points emerged. First, panhandling is an issue that affects everyone and is increasingly shaping urban daily life, and it is essential to continue expanding cross-sector conversations. Second, the international perspectives shared during the discussion were particularly valuable and inspiring for addressing this complex issue.
ICCCASU is also hosting two important peer-reviewed publication platforms: one with a Springer Nature book series, and one online journal based at the University of Ottawa. We are preparing a special issue on panhandling. If you would like to share insights, policy briefs, or research, you are very welcome to contact us ([email protected]).
In addition, attached are two recent publications in top npj journals (article 1; article 2). As you can see, our team is actively developing applications of AI/GeoAI in urban social policy, and we hope to apply these technologies to better understand and address panhandling at urban intersections. If you are interested in joining this effort, we warmly welcome your collaboration.
